When to Go:
We traveled in June—an ideal time! Expect mid-60s during the day, but pack layers for chilly nights. With 18 hours of daylight, you’ll have plenty of time to explore.
Starting Point: Seattle
Our cruise departed from Seattle. Take time to explore the city before or after your trip—we did both and highly recommend it!
Ports of Call:
- Juneau, Alaska:
Our favorite stop! Juneau offers kayaking, whale watching, glacier tours, and hiking. We witnessed a rare event—a large pod of whales hunting together, which even amazed our guides. Don’t miss Devil’s Club Brewing Company and Amalga Distillery (the best gin on tap I’ve ever had).

- Skagway, Alaska:
Despite hearing it was a “sleepy town,” we loved Skagway’s old-time charm. Fun facts: many locals have helicopter insurance for emergencies, and the grocery store is restocked weekly. Activities include hiking, dog sledding, exploring historic downtown, and the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway (our highlight!). Klondike Brewing Company was our favorite local spot. - Victoria, British Columbia:
We enjoyed a sunny day exploring Victoria. Slow down and take in the city’s beauty—the Parliament Building and the floating homes at Fisherman’s Wharf are must-sees. Visit a tea house; Murchie’s Fine Tea & Coffee was our top pick.

Must-Have Travel Item:
Bring compact binoculars! You don’t want to miss distant whales, glaciers, eagles and more. These binoculars HERE worked great for me. Please note, this is an affiliate link, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase—at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting the blog.
Final Thoughts
An Alaskan cruise is truly a bucket-list experience, filled with unforgettable sights and unique adventures. Traveling in June gave us the perfect blend of mild weather and endless daylight, making every day feel like two. Each port offered its own charm, from the wildlife and craft drinks in Juneau to the historic railway in Skagway and the vibrant floating homes in Victoria.
If you’re planning your own journey, don’t underestimate the value of a balcony room or a good pair of compact binoculars—they’ll help you soak in every moment. Most importantly, embrace the spirit of exploration and take time to enjoy both the big highlights and the small surprises along the way.
Happy Cruising!
